Aphrodite

Aphrodite (Greek: Ἀφροδίτη) is the goddess of love and passion in Ancient Greek mythology. The Ancient Greeks, who distinguished between physical and emotional love, had two Aphrodite goddesses: One was the goddess of physical love, the other of emotional love.

Her equivalent in Roman mythology is Venus, and in Etruscan mythology is Turan. Her rival in the fight against the Giants is Periboia.

There are two myths about the birth of Aphrodite. Homer states that this goddess was born from Dione, the daughter of Zeus and Oceanus, while Hesiod states in Theogony that Aphrodite was born from the foam of the sea. According to the myth, when Kronos was dethroning his father Uranus, he cut off his father's genitals with a sickle. The cut organ fell into the sea and Aphrodite was born from the foam that formed.
