Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander the Great succeeded Philip II to the throne at the age of 20.
He spent the majority of his reign engaged in unparalleled large-scale military campaigns in Southwest Asia and Northeast Africa, and by the age of 30, he had established one of the largest empires in the ancient world, stretching from Greece to Northwest India.
