He was born in Pella in 356 BC, and at the age of 20 his father, II. Philip took the throne instead. He spent many years of his rule on an unprecedented campaign in Southwest Asia and Northeast Africa, and by the age of 30 he had created one of the largest empires in the ancient world, stretching from Greece to Northwest India.
